The LFOA was founded in 1963 and is arguably the largest local tackle association of its kind in Canada. Over 110 members make up the membership of the LFOA which is based in Burlington. The organization officiates all the high school and community football in the Regions of Peel, Halton and Niagara. The association provides certification programs, education, training, and mentorship to its members.
Many members of the association have advanced and officiated in the Ontario Provincial Football League, the Northern Football Conference, Canadian Junior Football League, Ontario University Athletics, USport, and the Canadian Football League. Many current and former members have officiated the Vanier Cup and Grey Cup and take part in the LFOA’s mentorship programs. Canadian Football Hall of Fame Inductee, Jake Ireland is an active on-field member of the association and Kyle Walters, the General Manager of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers is a former LFOA Rookie of the Year.
There is a need for football officials! Football requires impartial, competent officials to ensure the game is played fairly and safely. If you enjoy the game of football, this is a wonderful way to be part of a great sport and provide a vital service at the same time. The LFOA will provide you with the necessary classroom and field training to become a certified official. Those who have previously played the game may have a head start with rules knowledge and a “feel for the game,” however, this is not a prerequisite. A willingness to learn the rules, officiating mechanics, and gain experience are all that are required. The rewards are many . . . physical activity, teamwork, new friendships.
Do not fumble your opportunity to become a football official. The Lakeshore Football Officials Association is a diverse and inclusive organization. We urge anyone over the age of 15 that may be interested in becoming a football official to contact us by way of e-mail at email@example.com.
